Community Engagement Centers
UNC’s Community Engagement Centers are spaces to meet other residents in your neighborhood, congregate with friends, explore campus resources, engage in skill development and participate in events and activities hosted by your community. You will be able to:
- Access campus resources useful to your needs.
- Understand how to practice strong academically focused habits.
- Develop skill sets useful for navigating college and finding a career after.
- Cultivate and maintain meaningful relationships and/or connections.
The Community Engagement Centers support UNC students in various ways, including tutoring in the residence halls, capacity building with community projects, supporting health and wellness and more. Tutorial Services
Through a partnership with Tutorial Services, we offer peer-led tutoring services in the residence halls in a select number of Residential Learning Communities. We are very proud to be able to offer this benefit to our students and demonstrate our commitment to academic success in the residence halls.
- Our Biology, Elementary Education, Monfort College of Business and Cumbres Residential Connections currently have a Resident Assistant (RA) dedicated to providing in-hall tutoring for a set list of courses directly required for that academic major.
- Our RAs in the Residential Connections have been rigorously selected based on qualification and academic mastery of their respective discipline.
- UNC’s Tutorial Services is certified through the College Reading and Learning Association. Certification of our tutors requires a minimum achievement in the courses they tutor, a faculty recommendation and extensive training on how to effectively tutor in a peer-to-peer dynamic.
